Y0UTH & ELDER SUMMIT

2016 Youth & Elder Summit, Diné College

"The First Annual Youth and Elder Summit was held in July 2016 at Diné College in Tsaile, Arizona focused on bridging the intergenerational gap between youth and elders. The main focus of the Youth and Elder Summit was to bring together the two populations to ignite and build relationships, connection, and reunification. The Youth and Elder Summit promoted positive protective factors, strengthening resiliency, cultural empowerment, and communication. This two and a half day event featured breakout and general sessions pertaining to topics from traditional attire, Ké: Diné Clanship, Parenting & Communication, Peacemaking/Fundamental Law, and other various culturally relevant topics. These sessions were focused on sharing stories, insight, teachings, and understanding of the world in the past and present. Approximately 1,400 participants attended over the course of the summit."
